A Trench Coat Born from Two Traditional Yamanashi Crafts
muto × Inden no Yamamoto
Trench Coat “I”
100% Silk × Koshu Inden
Two traditional industries that Yamanashi takes pride in:“textiles” and “Koshu Inden”
By combining their respective techniques, an unprecedented trench coat was born.
A high-quality 100% silk coat fabric woven by the stole brand muto.
By combining Koshu Inden leather with it, the traditional and modern coexist in a single piece, completing the trench coat “I”.
A Collaboration of Traditional Yamanashi Techniques
This trench coat
was born from these two crafts.
Inden no Yamamoto is a Koshu Inden manufacturing company founded approximately 70 years ago.
It is a workshop led by the only artisan in Japan who holds the qualification of a Koshu Inden Traditional Craftsman (General Category).
Not only in inheriting traditional techniques
but also through
brand collaborations
projects with animation and game companies
and custom-made one-of-a-kind pieces, it is expanding the new possibilities of Koshu Inden.
Coat Fabric Woven by a Stole Maker
The fabric of this coat is produced by the stole maker muto.
The yarn used is 210/2 extra-fine silk yarn.
A 100% silk coat fabric was woven using extremely delicate natural fibers.
Furthermore
by blending differently shaded colored yarns into the warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads, it creates a deep, rich color with depth that cannot be expressed in a single color.
Texture Created by a Low-Speed Shuttle Loom
The fabric is woven on a low-speed shuttle loom made shortly after World War II.
Compared to modern high-speed looms, its production efficiency is not high.
However
and has the following characteristics:
A gentle touch
a smooth texture
and an elegant luster
resulting in a fabric with these qualities.
It combines a solid presence as a trench coat with the elegance unique to silk.
Koshu Inden Gun Flap
The iconic feature of this coat is the gun flap on the shoulder.
Koshu Inden leather was used for this part.
Inden is a traditional craft of Yamanashi that applies lacquer patterns to deerskin.
For this production, water-repellent processing was applied to the lacquered Inden leather and used as a part of the trench coat.
The substantial luster unique to Inden enhances the presence of the entire coat.
A Trench Coat That Enhances the Stole
The reason muto made this trench coat was to make the stole look even more beautiful.
The compatibility with textiles that only a stole brand can create.
It is a special piece that further elevates the completeness of an outfit when paired with a stole.
